The Leo Baeck Institute Jerusalem has been active for many years in publishing studies related to the history and culture of Jews who lived within the German cultural sphere as well as in publishing original texts in Hebrew translation.
Together with the Zalman Shazar Center for Jewish History, the Institute publishes a series called Bridges - Studies in the History of Central European Jewry [Hebrew]. This series includes monographs written by both veteran and junior researchers.
Another regular Hebrew publication of the Institute is Chidushim (Innovations) in the Study of the History of German and Central European Jewry, which includes articles on a variety of topics of interest. This publication serves as a convenient forum for young Israeli scholars to publish their studies, and is also open to veteran scholars as well.
Every year, the Institute conducts a festive Jacob Katz Memorial Lecture and then publishes the transcribed lectures.
In addition to these permanent publications, the Institute also supports the publication of new studies and of sources translated into Hebrew, in cooperation with a broad spectrum of research institutes and publishers in Israel.
The Institute publishes an annual collection of essays in German in collaboration with the German publisher Suhrkamp; it is called Jüdischer Almanach des Leo Baeck Instituts (Jewish Almanac). Every year, this publication is dedicated to a single major topic; it contains a variety of articles on the specific topic and is intended for the wide public in German-speaking countries and around the world. The Almanac is funded by the Alfred Freiherr von Oppenheim Stiftung Fund in Essen, Germany.
Leo Baeck Institute Jerusalem publicizes studies in the Schriftenreihe wissenschaftlicher Abhandlungen des Leo Baeck Instituts, a joint publication of the three Leo Baeck Institutes; the publication appears in English and German. The Leo Baeck Institute Year Book, which is edited in the Leo Baeck Institute London, is considered the leading world-wide publication in its field. The Year Book can be purchased also via LBI Jerusalem.
From 1957 throughout 1991 LBI Jerusalem published once a year the scholarly Bulletin of the Leo Baeck Institute in German. |
